The advantages of the spread of English as a global language will continue to overweigh its disadvantages. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The expansion of
English
has become a popular topic recently, bringing interest to many people around the world. From my perspective, I believe that
this
development has more merits than demerits.
To begin
with, using
English
on a global scale has created considerable benefits for humans.
Firstly
, it helps reduce the communication barriers between countries regardless of cultural background, ethnicity and race which enhance mutual understanding, interchange of ideas and worldwide cooperation.
Additionally
,
English
increases educational and employment chances because it is frequently required for foreign study and employment. To illustrate, I am Vietnamese but thanks to my ability to speak
English
, I have an opportunity to live and work in Canada.
Besides
that,
English
allows more people to travel globally without facing any obstacles to expression. In fact, many travellers may struggle to communicate with native people.
However
, if there is only one common language,
this
issue can be addressed easily.
On the other hand
, the proliferation of
English
has posed some drawbacks. It is unavoidable that the dominance of
English
leads to the extinction of minority languages which are less widely spoken and even vanished.
This
can be a huge loss of human culture.
In other words
, national identity can be affected remarkably.
In addition
, the spread of
English
might lead to a sense of cultural and linguistic displacement among non-native
English
speakers who may be forced to adopt
English
as their mother tongue in order to compete in the global market.
To conclude
, I believe that the proliferation of
English
has more benefits than its drawbacks and it will soon become a common language in the world, eliminating the communication barriers.
