In recent times, due to the rapid development, climate change has become a serious problem. It is generally believed that humans are the primary cause of this problem.
This essay will analyse why this is happening and its possible effects on the individuals and the society as a whole.
To begin with, a major cause of global heating to consider is the use of non-renweable energy for different purposes worldwide. This is because, these types of gass are not safe and they emit more cabon dioxide into the atmosphere, resulting in climate change. Furthermore, another cause of global warning is ignorance. Most people are not aware of the causes, adverse effects and how to prevent its occurrence. This is why people waste energy and water in their homes without thinking about the consequences. Additionally, another reason for this is the increasing number of vehicles on the road. This further exacerbate the problem of air pollution with resultant worldwide heating effect. For example, studies have shown that countries that have laws to reduce the number of private cars on the road are less likely to suffer climate change.
Obviously, global heating has several negative effects on the people and the society at large. Firstly, one major problem arising from this is natural disasters. This is because greenhouse effect from air pollution will lead to persistent rise in temperature and eventually lead to flooding, hurricanes and draught, to name but a few. Consequently, this will results in lost of properties, humans and extinction of rare animals. In addition, another issue associated with global heating is that it causes skin cancers in people who are exposed to the sun. For instance, a recent comparative study published by the Word Health Organisation revealed that skin malignancies were more prevalent in the Northern part of Nigeria when compared to the South- South where the weather is more friendly.
In conclusion, it is apparent that global warming, being one of the major problems facing the world today has several causes and its effects are detrimental to both individuals and the society as a whole. Thus, public awareness programmes, stringent laws against private vehicles and non-renweable source of power should be complimented.
